FLIR Systems has been selected by the French Defence Procurement Agency to support the French Operational Pocket Drone programme, the company announced on 18 January.

Under the contract, which has a ceiling value of $89 million, FLIR Systems will provide its Black Hornet 3 nano-UAV and personal reconnaissance system to support the French armed forces’ operations.

With a weight of 32gms, the UAS can fly at speeds of over 21km per hour. It is equipped with EO/IR sensors and improved encrypted military-approved digital datalink, enabling seamless communications and imagery transmission significantly beyond line-of-sight and in closed areas.

The Black Hornet 3 provides short range surveillance day or night for personnel situational awareness and threat detection.
